Rhythmic Gymnastics Hoop Routine at Gymnastics Competition - Katrina of FitForaFeast

Rhythmic gymnastics hoop routine at a gymnastics competition.

This was Katrina's first year of rhythmic gymnastics.  She was inspired by all of the talented rhythmic gymnasts at the last Olympics.  Katrina had to learn ribbon, hoop, ball and even rope and clubs. She wanted to do the freestyle, but was not allowed to this year because of her age bracket.

The apparatus is the hardest part of rhythmic gym.  Even if you train in other disciplines such as dance and have extreme flexibility, always knowing where the apparatus is around you and making the movements fluid is harder than it looks.

The hoop is also slightly weighty and has to weigh at least 300 grams.  The allowed inner diameter is anywhere from 60-90cm.

Throws, passing rolls and throws, rolling the hoop across the body, circling, hand circles and other movements are combined to produce a custom choreographed gymnastics hoop routine.

Hope you like it!

Hallway Swimming in School - Fun at Recess

Hallway swimming is a great way to keep school hallway floors clean!  It also is a lot of fun.  A hallway swim is harder than it looks and success also depends on the width of the hallway and how smooth the floors are.

Katrina and Sloane try hallway swimming with their friends at their schools.  Have you tried it yet?
In the middle of the video, Katrina offers some quick pointers on how to hallway swim.

School recess can be long and boring, especially if the weather outside is cold or rainy.  Some hallway swimmers have continued on for 15 minutes - 30 min. or more.  Great exercise, but watch your wrists and ankles.

I wonder if it is possible to swim all the way up and down a hallway once you get good at it.

Have fun at your next school recess!

Hip Hop Dance Lessons

Hip Hop Dance Lessons

David teaches the girls some moves in this  contemporary hip hop dance lesson.  Learning a dance combo requires learning all of the individual moves and putting it all together.

First part of this step involves some footwork and a slide.  Learn each part before moving to the next. Then you add 2 fists and circle the arms. Put in a slight pause in the arm movement and then continue. See the video for the complete hip hop dance lesson.

The second part is where you just finished the arm circle and then you step up to the front and open your arms and take another step with your left food.  Use your shoulders and back on the 6th count of the move as shown in the video.

Give yourself some room because this move involves some travelling forward.  Try it from the top with the dancers.  Check out David at a FRESH workshop near you.

Want to take hip hop dance lessons online?  Sloane and Katrina are in a complete step by step hip hop dance course for beginners called Hip Hop Crusher.  You can find out more about online dance lessons at HipHopCrusher.com.

This video contains a body roll which you can also learn in the Hip Hop Crusher online dance class.

Thanks to David for teaching this class, the girls had alot of fun.
